Belgium: Strategic developments in Brussels
The EU is developing measures to prevent Russia's return to international sports with national symbols The European Union is discussing new restrictions that would prevent Russian athletes from competing in international competitions under the national flag and with the anthem. This is reported by Politico, citing an internal document of the European diplomatic service. 🔹 Possible measures include personal sanctions, visa restrictions for athletes, as well as termination of funding for sports federations that allow Russian national teams to compete with national symbols. 🔹 The EU is also considering coordinated pressure on broadcasters and sponsors not to support sports events that Russia may use to promote its interests. 🔹 According to Politico, Brussels fears that the position of the President of the International Olympic Committee, Kirsty Coventry, may accelerate Russia's return to international sports. In particular, this could open the way for Russian national teams to participate in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. 🔹 European diplomats also propose involving Great Britain, Norway, and Switzerland in a broader coalition against Russia's return to international sports. The Ukrainian authorities emphasize that the return of Russian athletes and national symbols to international competitions contributes to the normalization of Russian aggression. At the same time, the IOC has not yet made a final decision on the use of the Russian flag and anthem at the Olympic Games. ✅ Subscribe to Spravdi on Telegram
