Democratic Republic Of The Congo: Natural event in Democratic Republic of the Congo
At least 4,018 people have died in the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), with 8,300 confirmed cases reported across seven provinces, according to health authorities. The case fatality rate stands at 48.4 per cent, while 2,162 patients have recovered. Declared in May 2026, the outbreak is the largest and deadliest Ebola outbreak recorded in the DRC and the second-largest worldwide, after the 2014–2016 West Africa epidemic. It has also been described as the fastest-growing Ebola outbreak in history. Although new cases have declined in some areas, Medecins Sans Frontieres has warned that the actual toll could be higher due to gaps in disease surveillance and case detection.
