Cameroon: Violence against civilians in Yaoundé

Cameroon Food Security Outlook Update, October 2026 - May 2027: Conflict compounded by rainfall deficits to sustain elevated assistance needs through May Country: Cameroon Source: Famine Early Warning System Network Please refer to the attached file. Key Messages Crisis (IPC Phase 3) outcomes are expected to be widespread across the Northwest and Southwest regions from November 2026 through at least May 2027. Persistent insecurity, including kidnapping and protracted displacement, will continue to disrupt livelihoods and limit access to food and income. Reduced humanitarian assistance is expected to deepen food consumption gaps. A small but growing share of the worst-affected households are expected to face Emergency (IPC Phase 4) outcomes. In the Far North’s Mayo-Sava, Mayo-Tsanaga, and Logone-et-Chari, main harvests will improve food access, but conflict-related livelihood disruptions will keep outcomes Stressed (IPC Phase 2). Very poor refugee and displaced households with severely eroded livelihoods will remain in Crisis (IPC Phase 3). From February to at least May, early stock depletion, high food prices, and insecurity are expected to worsen outcomes to Crisis (IPC Phase 3), with some households facing Emergency (IPC Phase 4). FEWS NET projects that 1.5–1.99 million people will need humanitarian food assistance between October 2026 and May 2027, mainly refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and conflict-affected households, with rainfall deficits exacerbating needs. Assistance needs are expected to increase countrywide and peak during the March–May 2027 lean season as market dependence grows amid weak purchasing power and high food prices. In the Far North, needs will likely ease through January 2027 after the main harvest before increasing again later in the outlook period. Stressed (IPC Phase 2) outcomes are expected to persist through May 2027 in Mberé (Adamawa), Kadey (East), and Lom-et-Djérem (East), driven by pressure on local resources associated with the presence of refugees from the Central African Republic (CAR). Very poor refugee households are likely to face Crisis (IPC Phase 3) or worse outcomes. Stressed (IPC Phase 2) outcomes are also expected to persist among poor urban displaced households in Yaoundé and Douala, where livelihood opportunities remain limited. In Mayo-Kani and Mayo-Danay, rainfall-related production shortfalls are expected to contribute to Stressed (IPC Phase 2) outcomes among some households. The analysis in this report is based on information available as of October 23, 2026.
