France: Battles in Paris

Collision between train and bus at the entrance of the Eurotunnel leaves 19 injured in France. A collision between a freight train and a bus left 19 injured in France this Thursday (15), according to local authorities. The accident happened at the entrance to the Eurotunnel, which connects the country to the United Kingdom under the English Channel. According to the French broadcaster BFM TV, five of the injured are in critical condition. Emergency teams were sent to the scene, as well as a helicopter. The Eurotunnel is about 50 km long and houses an underwater railway link between France and the United Kingdom. Cars and buses also cross the tunnel, but not in the conventional way. The vehicles are transported by special trains. Incidents at the Eurotunnel are extremely unusual. In 1996 and 2008, fires on trains crossing the tunnel injured passengers, but there were no deaths. On both occasions, the tunnel was closed or had traffic partially suspended for a few days. Thursday's accident occurred about a month after the derailment of a train with almost 200 passengers in northern France. On that occasion, more than 40 people were injured. Authorities have opened an investigation and are looking into the possibility of sabotage.
