Kazakhstan: Strategic developments in Astana
An electronic travel authorization (ETA) for entering Kazakhstan is being introduced gradually. Starting July 1, 2027, citizens of 85 countries, including Uzbekistan, will be required to obtain an ETA upon entry. This new rule does not cancel the visa-free regime but adds an additional electronic permit obtained before departure. The system is being implemented in phases: from November 1, 2026, at Astana Airport and four crossing points; from January 1, 2027, at Nur-Sultan and Almaty airports; from March 1, 2027, at the remaining crossing points. Children under 16 years of age, persons aged 65 and over, and citizens holding a visa or residence permit of Kazakhstan are exempt from obtaining an ETA. Note: the permit is valid for 180 days but does not extend the visa-free stay period of 30 days in the country.
