Antigua And Barbuda: Event in Saint John's

Photo of the day. King of Great Britain Charles III and Queen Camilla complete their tour of Caribbean countries. His trip to the Caribbean region was accompanied by protests and touched on one of the most painful topics in the relations between Great Britain and former colonies: the legacy of the transatlantic slave trade. Activists and representatives of Caribbean states demand from the British crown not only official apologies but also compensation for the consequences of centuries of exploitation, from which Great Britain received huge economic benefits. Charles expressed deep sorrow over the 'shameful pages' of British history, but did not offer official apologies and did not support paying reparations. 'The transatlantic slave trade still casts a shadow over these islands and other countries of our Commonwealth. As I said before, this shameful chapter of history fills my heart with horror and my soul with deepest personal grief,' the King declared in his speech at the Commonwealth summit in Antigua and Barbuda.
