Through Intelligence Efforts: 25 Suspects Wanted on Bribery, Forgery and Fraud Charges Taken into Custody by the National Security Service Acting on accurate intelligence and pursuant to judicial authorizations issued in accordance with due legal procedure, units of the Iraqi National Security Service carried out a series of coordinated, targeted operations in the governorates of Diyala, Baghdad, Maysan, Babil, Diwaniyah and Basra. The operations resulted in the arrest of 25 suspects, comprising government employees and members of criminal networks. They included the dismantling of a land-forgery network in Diyala and another engaged in forging martyrs' pension transactions in Baghdad; the apprehension of employees suspected of manipulating the valuation of state-owned land in Maysan, together with members of inspection committees in Diwaniyah; and the arrest in flagrante delicto of employees involved in bribery and forgery in Basra and Diyala, among them a Basra employee who accepted USD 10,000. The operations also led to the arrest of individuals suspected of defrauding citizens with false promises of employment within the National Security Service in Babil and the Ministry of Education in Diwaniyah, and the dismantling of a network engaged in sorcery and charlatanism in Baghdad. Seized items included forged financial instruments worth billions of dinars, computers, dozens of transaction files, dossiers, official documents and identity cards, as well as sums of money. All suspects were detained and referred, together with the seized items, to the competent judicial authorities so that legal measures may be taken against them in accordance with the law.
