Latvia: Battles in Riga

Masked gunmen threatened Latvian military on the border with Belarus and stole surveillance cameras. The head of the Latvian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Jānis Dombrava, reported that masked gunmen tried to escort a group of 20 illegal migrants from Belarus into Latvia and threatened soldiers of the National Armed Forces of Latvia. According to Dombrava, the Latvian military thwarted the border crossing attempt. He said that the people accompanying the migrants, who remained on the Belarusian side of the border, were armed, threatened the military, and also "actively pushed and directed the group of migrants towards Latvia". In addition, the masked people infiltrated Latvian territory several hours later. Dombrava stated that they damaged a distribution electrical panel and stole video surveillance cameras, after which they returned to Belarusian territory before the border guards arrived.
