Fielded as the XM21 and adopted in 1972 as the M21 — 11.25 pounds, 44.1 inches, M118 match ammunition from a 20-round magazine. The 9th Infantry Division ran the war's most serious Army sniper school, passed about half its candidates, and 54 of its graduates recorded 211 confirmed kills through March 1969.
