Brazil: Violence against civilians in Teresópolis

The Federal Police launched an operation on Tuesday (3) to investigate crimes of threat, racial insult, racism, and political violence against federal deputy Talíria Petrone (PSOL-RJ) via the internet. 'The investigation began in August 2026, following the sending of electronic messages containing death threats and attacks of a racist and misogynistic nature directed at the parliamentarian and her family, in addition to the unauthorized disclosure of the victim's personal data,' reported the Federal Police. During the operation, a search and seizure warrant was executed in the municipality of Teresópolis, in Rio de Janeiro, issued by the District Federal Electoral Justice. Furthermore, the Federal Police identified a suspect for the authorship of the messages, who had been arrested in Teresópolis for suspicion of involvement in another crime. The operation, named Mahin, also investigates the practice of the same crimes against Talíria's family.
