United States: Execution in Tennessee
The head of the Tennessee Department of Corrections announced his resignation in a joint statement with Governor Bill Lee. Krista Pike, sentenced to death for a murder she committed 30 years ago, was supposed to be executed in Tennessee on Wednesday. However, Pike remained alive not only after the first but also after the second lethal injection. She is currently in critical condition in the hospital. "Commissioner Strada served with dignity, and I appreciate his willingness to put the interests of Tennessee citizens first at this difficult time," said Governor Lee. Bill Lee has ordered an independent investigation into the circumstances of Krista Pike's failed execution, as well as a postponement of all other executions in the state for one year.
