North Korea: Battles in Pyongyang

South Korean prosecution requests that Yoon Suk-yeol's 30-year sentence be upheld in the second trial of the drone case. SEOUL, October 16 (Xinhua News Agency reporters Chen Yi, Sun Yiran) According to Yonhap News Agency, the special prosecutor's team investigating the emergency martial law incident requested on the 16th that former President Yoon Suk-yeol be sentenced to 30 years imprisonment in the second trial for "creating the drone intrusion incident over Pyongyang," upholding the first trial's verdict. The Seoul High Court held the final hearing for the second trial of Yoon Suk-yeol's alleged general crime against the enemy case that day. The special prosecutor's team pointed out that this case is a criminal act of abusing the military's supreme command and command authority, attempting to induce North Korea to launch armed provocation, and even risking South Korea to trigger a local war or even a full-scale war. The prosecution also requested that former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun be sentenced to 30 years imprisonment. On November 10, 2025, Yoon Suk-yeol and others were accused by the special prosecutor's team of ordering the Drone Operations Command to dispatch drones to Pyongyang in October 2024. The special prosecutor's team pointed out that the drones crashed near Pyongyang, leading to the leakage of military secrets such as operational plans and combat capabilities. In April of this year, the special prosecutor's team sought a 30-year prison sentence for Yoon Suk-yeol on charges of general crime against the enemy and abuse of power. In June of this year, the first trial court found Yoon Suk-yeol guilty of general crime against the enemy and sentenced him to 30 years imprisonment. Yoon Suk-yeol's legal team subsequently filed an appeal.
