Uzbekistan: Strategic developments in Uzbekistan

The proposal to increase the base norm for electricity from 200 kilowatt-hours to 350 kilowatt-hours in areas without gas supply and where gas does not reach during the heating season has been approved. In December, it was proposed to consider the issue of allocating one-time financial assistance to needy families. Also, the proposal to increase the income threshold applied per family member to 1 million 430 thousand soums for covering electricity, gas, coal, and utility costs for needy families not included in the Social Register was considered. As a result, the scope of support will expand to another 166 thousand families. It was proposed to extend the deadline for covering part of the expenses for consumption exceeding the base norm for electricity and gas until April 1, 2028. This measure is expected to cover 470 thousand families per year. Work on protecting 3,000 households in low-income neighborhoods from heat and providing them with energy-saving equipment will also continue. The head of state instructed the Government to direct funds for the designated assistance in a timely manner, ensure targeted delivery in identifying needy families, and strengthen control over the delivery of aid to each family.
