Uzbekistan: Strategic developments in Tashkent
Traffic lights in Köç darvoza kochasi have been synchronized. 16 signal objects in a 7 km section of the road were coordinated to operate as a single system. The system operates in two modes: - 07:00–17:00: Wave directed towards the center; - 17:00–24:00: Wave directed out from the center. According to measurements made in a tight timeframe, the time to reach the destination decreased by 40%, saving 8 minutes per journey. During peak traffic hours, travel time may differ based on speed and road conditions. In short, in the 'Green Wave' system, traffic lights are coordinated: drivers moving at the permitted speed arrive at the next signal when the green light is on. However, this does not mean a permanent green light: signals also allocate time for pedestrians and other vehicles on cross streets. Consequently, drivers may sometimes arrive at a red light, but can subsequently join another green wave.
