Latvian authorities arrested a couple suspected of spying for the Russian intelligence service. The State Security Service of Latvia (VDD) jointly with the Military Intelligence and Security Service (MIDD) arrested two citizens suspected of illegally collecting information for the Russian military intelligence – GRU, Bloomberg writes. According to investigation data, the suspects were collecting and passing GRU information about Latvia's defense system, the activities of NATO allies and support for Ukraine. In particular, it concerns data on the air base, radar systems and the movement of military aviation. One of the suspects, according to the version of Latvian special services, on orders of GRU carried out air reconnaissance and photographed a military base in Adazi from a small private aircraft. The investigation also believes that the couple was taking measures to support potential reconnaissance and sabotage groups in Latvia. The criminal investigation was started on June 27, and the couple was arrested on June 28. During raids in Riga and Adazi parish, data carriers, documents and records were seized.
